What Connects Us: The Light Lines Journey
I started The Light Lines six years ago now, as a place to advertise my Human Design readings and put down the thoughts I had as I went through the process of learning more about the system and doing readings. The more I learned about others, the more I learned about myself in the process. There were so many layers of healing, exploration, and potential that I was able to explore while creating a space designed to answer the question: what does it mean to be you? Human Design and astrology are fascinating subjects to me because they help to map mysterious, mystical traits onto the human experience, connecting us to the illusive movements and symbolism of the planets and stars that hover above us. Somehow these celestial bodies help to teach us about how we see and experience the world. The elements that make up our planet also illuminate emotions, fears, ways of taking action, and thinking. There are parallels in the movements of the planets in our experience with the most mundane aspects of life on Earth: Saturn squares birth struggles with coworkers or Venus trines bring magical loves into your path. We are connected to the archetypes that cyclically orbit us but can also happily ignore them and exist as if there is no relationship if we don’t want to.
It’s pretty similar to how we as humans relate to the natural world - the spaces we’ve deemed “other” from us or relegated to exist out in some idyllic space where capitalism and human ideals don’t dictate the basic rules of existence. As I’ve dug more into systems like Human Design and Astrology, I’ve come to realize that the parts of it that speak to me and make my soul sing are the parts that remind me that humans are star dust - we’re unique and endlessly interesting aspects of the “natural world,” that move and shift and adapt over time. Perhaps we’ve forgotten our deep connection to the planet we reside on the same way we’ve forgotten our deep connection to ourselves. Unconsciously distancing ourselves from the core of who we are and what it really means to be alive, we’ve created an elaborate labyrinth of learnings to test how far we can go and what it means to come back.
As society leans more into AI and the “inevitability” of a world where we no longer need independent thought or ingenuity, one where our creative talents and critical thinking skills are deemed unnecessary, systems like astrology and Human Design offer another pathway. They poke us and remind us of how tethered we are to the real, physical world. They calls us to listen to the voice that whispers to us saying to do things differently. They beckon us to appreciate and celebrate our unique perspectives and approach life with insatiable wonder and delight. What it means to be you and to exist in this space in time is no small thing. It’s the culmination of eons of creativity and intelligence that doesn’t exist to make profit or exploit, but simple to be. It is endlessly tempting to want to optimize the ways we navigate life – and sure, you could argue that systems like Human Design and Astrology do just that – but being human is the magic of making mistakes. Of doubt and struggle and facing friction head on. Because that is how we learn. And if we’re not here to learn and explore and find enjoyment in the messiness of existence, then why imprint the complexities of the galaxy on our beings? Why give us different angles and aspects and place planets in different houses and signs? The precision and randomness outlines a path that we can iterate on in billions of different ways. But no matter which path you choose, there are still lights and lines and ways of finding your way back to yourself.
Being in the body, in our experiences is how we remember what it means to be alive. The Light Lines is a space for exploring these tensions, celebrating the oddities and wonder of this world, ruminating on ideas that connect the dots between outer and inner, and importantly – being a place that reminds us we are all as infinite or simple as we like.
