New Moon in Leo Lessons: Releasing Logic to Make Room for Commitment

Happy New Moon in Leo! As seems to be the trend lately, there is A LOT happening with the planets. This New Moon comes at a time where we’re being pushed to really tap into the energy of our hearts and decide who we really are. If anyone caught Michelle Obama’s speech last night, this was a huge theme. Remembering who we are, stepping up, and CLAIMING the highest expression of truth in what we stand for. This is the fiery Leo energy pushing us out of the shadows and into what we want to create and build in the coming months. We still have most of the outer planets in retrograde meaning there are big lessons and even bigger energies influencing us right now, which I won’t get into right now though lord knows my 1/3 line wants to.

For me, the big messages that seem to unite what I’m hearing from the world of astrology and Human Design are seen in Gate 4 and Gate 29. The moon is in Gate 4, the Gate of Formulization (expressed as irresponsibility in line 3), and the Sun is in 29, the Gate of Perseverance (expressed in line 2 as assessment). This reminded me of Malorine Mathurin’s talk on the New Moon where she described it as less “look at me” Leo energy and more “let me get my planner” Virgo influence – and I feel THIS.

The Human Design gate activations are showing us that we need to take time to plan, but not so much from the head. Gate 4 is also called “Youthful Folly” as it brings our awareness to doubts about the future. It tries to create a logical answer to questions we cannot possibly know – feels to me like the energy of trying to predict the outcome of a pandemic we know nothing about – creating tension and literal chaos. On an emotional and very personal level (because it’s coming from a moon activation), we’re being asked to look at the places we’re trying to use logic to answer questions that evade all answers. The wisdom comes from not jumping to conclusions based on something you can’t stop thinking about but waiting until you’re called forth to share something very specific with those around you. The New Moon is all about intentions, so take a moment to focus on what you’d like to contribute to help yourself or those around you and release the need to know how.

Gate 29 brings a bit of stabilizing energy here allowing us to endure the angst of being continuously pummeled by the unknown. This is sacral energy that responds to the right and wrong choice without consulting the mind. It is the power to say yes and stay committed (sustaining commitment is KEY) to the things that will guide us forward. We cannot know where the path leads us, just that we are saying yes to seeing it through. I love what’s written in The Definitive Book of Human Design on this: “Each correct commitment supports the maturation of your full potential for discovering who you are in relationship to others and the world.”

It’s perseverance at its finest. The world doesn’t change overnight and it requires the consistent commitment of people who are willing to fully accept the challenge and hold on no matter where the path takes them. For the New Moon, set your sights on the causes and people who are truly important in your life and ask yourself where you can refocus your time/energy to commit to these fully.

The grounding influence of the Earth in Gate 30, the Gate of Feeling or Fate, is stoking our Solar Plexus fire. It’s asking us to see where our passions truly lie and move forward not out of a simple desire in the now (lessons of the solar plexus, look for longevity, not reaction) but in a sustainable, enduring manner. Since this is a Solar Plexus gate, it is showing us how to find the calm in the emotional wave (that could easily be triggered right now) and trust that the path we see-through can be trusted if it lights us up– again, no matter where it leads. So if we see this all together, the Moon is making us feel doubts about the future keenly which signals our need to build something more sustainable. The Earth and Sun are showing us how to do this by guiding us toward our inner fire and light that will keep us going no matter the outcome.

This is the reminder that no matter who de-stabilizing the world seems right now, we’re all here for a reason and have the choice to answer the call to be that light guiding the way or not. I get the sense that humanity is in the process of peeling back all the layers. We’re being shown how to break free of conditioning, walk away from the things that are not correct for us, and being empowered to lead from a space of pure respect and exaltation of the self. As I’m writing this, I’m laughing remembering this is the definition of the Age of Aquarius – where the individual IS the collective.

If I can leave you with one thing, it’s the reminder to trust. Know you are supported. Follow the things that light you up and make you feel whole. You are here to be you.
